PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
